Analysis

The final trailer starts differently to most conventional horror trailers in that the genre is not gave away straight away. A diegetic sound of a school bell is sounded whilst the camera looks up at a teenage boy shutting what appears to be his school locker. An over voice of a man talking comes into play as the camera cuts to him who is the teacher and his classroom of pupils, the man appears to be talking about horror related things such as 'leaving enemies alive' 'disfiguring them'. This is when the camera shows a close up of a girl with no emotion on her face, she has a black hood up and what looks like burns on her face. After fading to black another institution is shown which is 'Final Fate features' the non-diegetic soundtrack at this point is a high pitched note held. The next voice we hear is of a teenager which says 'i think i know what hell is' the mise en scene then cuts to a montage of images from kids sitting round a bonfire, to a classroom, a scary looking clown talking, back to the classroom where a boy hits another boy round the head, to a toilet where the same boy has a different boy up by the neck, to the canteen where it appears that the 'popular kids' are looking and laughing at probably the 'unpopular ones'.

The next scene is of a girl with an emo look saying to three 'popular girls' "why are you always so mean to me, ive never done anything to you" One of the girls reply with "we're being honest". The camera is then back to the classroom again with the same teacher talking, it then goes to a close up of one boys in the classrooms sketching pad, on which he is drawing a monsterous image of a clown with a bleeding dagger in his hand. This is when the genre of the film is properly shown, in that the next scene goes to a dark building with religion crosses and lights and the audience can see a person walking down the stairs with a jumpsuit on and holding what looks like a gas cylinder. The characters face is never shown which gives of a mysterious enigma.

A fade to black opens again to reveal the 'unpopular kids' sitting together, one says 'do you think we're going to hell' the other answers 'No!' this line straight away tells the audience that something out of the ordinary is going down, because stereotypically what would 'geeks' go to hell for? The fades to black create a sense of the unknown as audiences dont always know what is next to appear on the screen. The montage of images continues again starting with the bonfire, then the classroom, to the popular girls jokingly saying 'dont go be our friend' whilst laughing. Another Fade to black is shown which then reveals images of four different people pulling on different kinds of masks over their faces. A close up of a gun in a box is shown, with a diegetic sound of the gun being loaded, whilst the boy says 'this is gonna be a night that they'll never forget'. A girl is shown with a feathered mask on and butterfly wings whilst one of the 'popular girls' over voice is on top saying 'i have one of the hottest costumes for the party'.

Slow motion images of then party in action are shown until eventually most of the people are knocked out unciousous by the punch. When they awaken they are chained up and a sequel of torture scenes are shown, such as bodies being dragged, fingers being cut off, headgear opening mouths, people running away, being hit and dead bodies. The over voices are scared and shakey with screams whilst the soundtrack is fast paced as though it is building up to something. The build up is to the name of the film and the credits, just when you think the trailer is over, the final clip is of one of the conspirators wearing a gas mask saying 'ask yourself one question' the image is vivid and blury and though it is being shown on a bad televsion reception it then finally finishes on a fade to black.
