The Return Of The Repressed

Freud believed that repression is often psychological and causes an individual to repel against certain desires, the repressed elements are reserved in the unconscious and tend to reappear into the subconscious or conscious mind revealing unrecognizable behaviour.

For example in a horror film, pyshcopath's may not have always been the way they are. They have kept in a repressed emotion or feeling from their childhood, this has then been bought up and eventually made them loose control which results in them being a pyscho.
